Terms of Service

Effective August 14, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of DegreeArc. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use DegreeArc.

1. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 years old to use DegreeArc. If you are not old enough to enter a binding agreement where you live, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms for you. You are responsible for accurate account information, safeguarding your sign-in method, and activity under your account. Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

2. What DegreeArc provides

DegreeArc helps you organize classes, terms, credits, and overlapping academic requirements. The service is provided for personal planning and informational purposes only. It is not an official degree audit, academic advising service, school catalog, transcript, enrollment system, or guarantee of graduation.

Academic requirements change and schools may apply rules differently. You are responsible for confirming your plan, transfer credit, substitutions, residency requirements, prerequisites, and graduation eligibility with your institution and academic advisor before making academic or financial decisions.

DegreeArc is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by James Madison University or any other college or university. Presets are editable planning suggestions, not official academic requirements.

3. Your content

You retain ownership of information you enter into DegreeArc. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, process, reproduce, and display that information only as necessary to operate, secure, improve, and support the service. You represent that you have the right to provide the information and that doing so does not violate law or another person's rights.

4. Acceptable use

You may not:

  • use DegreeArc for unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful activity;
  • access another person's account or data without permission;
  • probe, bypass, or interfere with authentication or security controls;
  • upload malicious code or overload, scrape, or disrupt the service;
  • reverse engineer the service except where applicable law permits it; or
  • use DegreeArc to infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights.

5. Third-party services

DegreeArc relies on third-party providers, including Clerk and Convex, for authentication and infrastructure. Their services may be governed by additional terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control, but we select and configure providers with the goal of operating DegreeArc reliably and securely.

6. Ownership of the service

DegreeArc, including its software, design, branding, and documentation, is owned by DegreeArc or its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms give you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable right to use the service; they do not transfer ownership of DegreeArc to you.

7. Availability and changes

We may update, suspend, or discontinue features to maintain security, comply with law, or improve the service. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free availability. When reasonably possible, we will provide notice of material changes that adversely affect existing users.

8. Suspension and termination

You may stop using DegreeArc or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially violate these Terms, create security or legal risk, or misuse the service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination—including ownership, disclaimers, liability limits, and dispute terms—will survive.

9. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DEGREEARC IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” WE DISCLAIM IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT A PLAN IS COMPLETE, CURRENT, ACCEPTED BY YOUR SCHOOL, OR SUFFICIENT FOR GRADUATION.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DEGREEARC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST DATA, TUITION, OPPORTUNITIES, PROFITS, OR REVENUE ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF DEGREEARC. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF US$100 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE DURING THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions or liability limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where the law where you live requires otherwise. Before filing a formal claim, you agree to contact us and try to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.

12. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms. We will post the revised version with a new effective date and provide additional notice when required. Continued use after the new Terms take effect means you accept them. Questions can be sent to jet@madebyjet.dev.
